Shinjuku Historical Museum was established as the center of Shinjuku's history and its culture.
Despite rapid urbanization, war damage, and restoration after Meiji Era, Shinjuku's culture of everyday life, which has been grown over the years to be what it is today, is still handed down to the people who live in Shinjuku. The museum aims to provide people with the environment where people can cultivate their mental and cultural creativity, and to protect the local history and culture by collecting and keeping important resources, doing research, opening the result of research to the public.
